Longlining

Is a fishing technique that uses one central line ranging better 1km and 150km long that has smaller lines with hook attached at regular intervals.  Long lines can be set at a number of different depths but the most popular are those set near the surface to catch open water fish, or right above the sea floor.

Advantages
-Bottom longlining has a much lower impact on the seabed then other methods
Disadvantage
-Longlining has a hard time attracting a specific species, thus there is a large amount of bycatch.  As well as cause danger to endangered sea turtles and sharks.
-The process of deploying long lines can result in the death of seabirds that dive to try to steal the bait.  They are caught by the lines and drown.
