Ponds

Overview:
A built in costal or inland areas using a variety of materials ranging from dirt to concrete.  The ponds can be filled with sea water or freshwater depending on the species being raised. Waste water from Pond aquaculture may or may not be treated after its use

Most Prevalent Species Raised:
tropical marine shrimp, catfish, tilapia

Concerns:
-The construction of shrimp ponds and other fish ponds throughout the developing world has been responsible for destroying and estimated 52%  of lost mangrove forest over the two decades.
-Untreated wastewater can pollute surrounding area including contaminating ground water
-Shot life spans of intensive shrimp farm leaves the land unusable after its use.
