Pots and Traps


Submerged cages that are made from a number of different materials that are designed to attract fish and hold them alive until the fisherman can return to haul his gear. They generally lie on the bottom of the ocean and can be singular or found in groups. The may or may not contain bait and are generally used to catch lobster, crab or shrimp but can also be used to catch certain bottom dwelling fish.

Advantages
-They can target specific species.
-Juveniles can be returned to the ocean easily

Disadvantages
-Traps can damage the sea floor habitat when there are large swells and tides
-Buoy lines can entangle marine mammals
