Trawling/Dragging

Is a form of fishing that involves towing a cone shaped net behind the boat.  The net can be dragged at any number of levels ranging from just below sea level to just above the sea floor.  Different devices can be added to the mouths of trawling net to help coax different animals into the net. There are a wide range of different shapes and types of nets that can be used and changed for the target species.

Disadvantages
-Pelagic (open water) trawlers can harvest a significant amount of bycatch, including unwanted species, juvenile fish and endangered sea turtles
-Dragging nets along the seafloor can have serious impacts on the fragile sea floor environment.
